Get your fleet winter-ready with Elevex’s essential tips

As the holiday season approaches, the impending shift in weather demands proactive fleet preparation. With just a few weeks after the clocks turn back, it's crucial to gear up for colder conditions, especially if your forklifts operate outdoors.

Inadequate winter preparation can lead to costly downtime when your trucks are most needed and, more critically, increase the risk of accidents due to improper maintenance. To ensure your fleet remains operational during a cold spell, here are some straightforward checks you should perform:

  • Schedule a service check for your trucks if they are due.
  • Ensure your maintenance schedule is up-to-date and book a service if needed.
  • Assess whether your operators require additional training for working in icy conditions.
  • Check all truck lights, replace windscreen wipers if necessary, and top up oils and lubricants.
  • Inspect tires for wear and consider replacements if needed.

Once your fleet is checked and ready, consider the working environment. Do you have adequate stocks of salt or gravel to maintain a safe working environment? Investing in a snow-plow attachment might be a wise decision. Also, take the opportunity to fix potholes or areas with deteriorating road surfaces to prevent further damage during freezing conditions.

Moreover, prioritize the well-being of your operators. Ensure they have appropriate clothing to stay warm and comfortable while working in the cold. For trucks without cabs, consider adding canopies to keep operators dry during wet conditions.

Remember, if you need assistance with service and maintenance, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for support. Elevex is here to help ensure your fleet is winter-ready.

Elevex guide: monitoring your forklift tires for optimum performance

Super Elastic Tires (sometimes referred to as Solid Tires).
As part of your daily forklift checks, tires are an important component to consider and should be regularly checked for signs of wear and tear. Some key areas to consider are the surface tread areas, the sidewalls, and the point at which the tire fits to the wheel. Always aim to replace your tires before they are worn to the J-Line (the wear line indicator on all Super Elastic Tires) as the tire will degrade rapidly once on and beyond the J-Line.
